Students display talent at Culture Show By Mara Etienne-Manley
Ross University School of Medicine’s Student Government Association (RUSM SGA) on Friday, November 14, hosted another Student Culture Show, showcasing the students’ varied talents to the rest of the community.
The event, held every other semester, attracts participants from diverse cultures and backgrounds. Classroom 6 was packed with students, faculty, staff and friends, showing support to nearly 100 students. Performances included ‘A Welcome to India’ Dance, African fashion show, gospel choir, magic presentation and live opera among others.
RUSM’s Senior Associate Dean, Dominica Campus, Wm Lynn Weaver, MD, FACS, said, “I am always amazed at the talent and skills that our students possess. They are so talented, with so many other skills other than just being good students. They are great musicians, great actors, great dancers. This culture show is one of the most enjoyable parts of the semester.”
Trisha Josephs, 2nd Semester student said, “I enjoyed Natalie playing on the keys, she was amazing. I also enjoyed the dancing and the fashion show- they’re on point, showing off the fashion; it’s a little different, sometimes you need to see something like that- the different cultures, and everybody doing their thing on stage, it was a good night.”
Meanwhile, David Bell, a 2nd Semester student said, “I really liked the people who actually had musical talent, the opera was really good and I also enjoyed the African dancers. It’s good to have people aware of the diversity on campus, and it was nice to have the different cultures represented here tonight.”
Show MC’s were Sheliza Khabani (3rd Semester), Suman Kaza, SGA Activities Director (3rd Semester) and Dr. Aidi Yin, Associate Professor of Anatomy.
